Where the mind is with fear and the head hangs in shame
Where knowledge is up for sale
Where the world has been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of deception
Where mindless striving stretches its arms towards ‘chalta hai’
Where the clear stream of reason has lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thoughts grey and blue
Into ever-sickening incidents of brutality against the fairer sex
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let not my country awake.

If only our society was free from the ‘chalta hai’ mentality, such harsh brutalities would never exist.
